Food Plot 9 Food plot 9 was a new plot we installed in 2012. We planted on the trails that weaved through our small orchard.

Blend Planted: Pennington's Rackmaster Durana Clover and Tecomate's Chicory

1=Poor , 2=Fair, 3=Good, 4=Very Good, 5=Excellent
Planting Date September 2011
Acreage .5 (GPS measured)
Moisture Fair to Good
Soil Condition PH 6.0, We limed but no fertilizer was applied
Plant Again? YES

Growth Results

Like our other Chicory/Clover mixes, this variety germinated well and and came up strong the first year. However unlike our other clover plots we decided not to mow this one. That was not a great idea, we have a lot of grass competition here and some of the clover was swallowed up.

Activity Results

We had good activity here in the early season, primarily September. But the grass invasion limited the amount of quality forage and the deer lost interest by October.

Comments

We wanted to see how well Durana competed with grass without mowing. I won't do the again. Durana likes to be mowed and mowed often.
