Food Plot 6 Food plot 6 is a small .4 acre Radish kill plot that had drainage issues this year.

Variety Planted: Daikon Radish

Utilization based on game camera survey on this crop choice + evidence of use
Planting Date August 26
Acreage .4 (GPS measured)
Moisture Very Good
Soil Condition PH 6.5, No amendments
Plant Again? Yes

Growth Results

We debated adding this plot to our review since we messed up the drainage on this field when pulling stumps with the dozer. The soil was too wet to till so we simply broadcasted radish seeds on top of the mud. Definately not ideal. To our amazement, the radishes germinated and grew relatively well in all but the wettest low spots.

Activity Results

Given the plot was so small and the wet soil stunted the radishes, activity was less than previous years. But we still had deer visit here often and they demolished the radishes.

Comments

This is not a fair review given the soil conditions but we included it to show that even terrible conditions can sometimes produce results. Next year we should have the drainage corrected here.
