Food Plot 7 - Hancock Siberian Kale, Austrian Winter Peas, White Globe Turnips

Utilization based on game camera survey on this crop choice + evidence of use

Growth Results

This is our biggest plot on the property and also the most remote. I spend more time on this plot than any of my others because it's typically our most critical. I decided to plant three Hancock varieties in 2017, Austrian Peas, Siberian Kale and White Globe Turnips. Everything was coming up great however an early hard frost, followed by drenching rains negatively affected my Siberian Kale and it all but vanished. But my peas and turnips survived and flourished. The plot came up amazing and even after January 1st the deer were eating greens laying under the snow.

Activity Results

Activity is always terrific on this plot but we had an interesting result this year. The plot was underutilized in September and October but it exploded in November, December and beyond. There was just too much food available for our deer this year. A good problem to have!

Comments

I love austrian peas and they drew well later in the year. So late, in fact, that all my peas podded out which was incredible. The turnips were the biggest we have ever grown as well and that helped feed my herd after the snows piled up. A terrific result once again.
