Food Plot 9 Food plot 9 was a plot we installed in 2011. We planted on the trails that weaved through our apple orchard.

Blend Planted: Pennington's Rackmaster Durana Clover and Tecomate's Chicory

Utilization based on game camera survey on this crop choice + evidence of use
Planting Date September 2011
Acreage .5 (GPS measured)
Moisture Very Good
Soil Condition PH 6.0, No lime or fertilizer was applied this year
Plant Again? YES

Growth Results

In 2011 we planted this perennial plot and failed to maintain it in 2012. This year we neglected it again. The plot still came up well, but since it is so small and we failed to mow it often, we have some grass invasion.

Activity Results

Activity appears to be an after-thought for the deer at this location, but that is understandable since we had a massive apple crop and this plot is located in one of our most prolific apple orchards.

Comments

This plot is not maintained and is not utilized anywhere near as much as our other clover and chicory plots. I don't know if it makes any difference. The deer are here for the apples. We planted it to improve the soil and it's done well in that regard. Still, given my lack of interest in this small plot the crop comes up well - year after year.
