Utilization based on game camera survey on this crop choice + evidence of use
I left this plot unfenced again after seeing the positive results from our unfenced plot last year. Once again, the deer could not keep up with the growth and we had another fantastic result. This is remarkable since we had a dip in soil PH, and a wetter than normal spring.
We had an interesting result on our soybean activity in 2017. Plot activity was slower at first, then it steadily picked up. There was tremendous activity late in the year until the end of December. The exact opposite of what happened last year - where utilization was highest in September, then tapered off as the weather turned cold.
We've now had three successful plantings of Real World beans under a variety of growing and grazing conditions. Despite whether they draw early or late, the constant is they always draw deer into them and longer than any of my other crops. I will plant them again in 2018 but am debating moving them to my bigger field.
